Railcoin exists partly to raise funds for heritage railways to reinstate abandoned railways. This one in Leeds symbolises many other railways. which crisscrossed the UK opening up areas which included beautiful scenery to travelers. This is the view from atop a forgotten railway viaduct which is some 1500 yards long and leaps across the local urban landscape with an impressive total of 85 arches.
The route, originally built and operated by the London & North Western railway company, ferried goods and passengers northwards out of the capital from King’s Cross. It gave journeying Londoners their very first views of Leeds as they passed into the city. The skyline has changed somewhat over the past century, but the viaduct remains!
The old piece of infrastructure now provides a fascinating platform for urban explorers and is particularly attractive for the unique perspective of Leeds city skyline which is visible from this height and angle. As the centuries slip onward, it’s more important than ever to value industrial heritage, and the important role that such now-decaying architecture plays in shaping our national identity.
